Progressive over-load is something that anyone who is doing any form of training/exercise should at least be aware of. So it’s something i wanted to just do a brief note on.
The S.A.I.D Principle dictates that your body will adapt to the demands placed on it. When these demands are new, we see results. However once the body makes those adaptations, we often hit the plateau – we stop seeing results. This is very common for people, who may be going to the gym three or four times a week, but not working off an effective program. Your body has basically figured out how to complete the workout with very little stress. For adaptations to take place we need stress !!
Progressive overload i.e stressing the body above what it is used to, is crucial. A systematic planned programme, will track and alter these demands over time and is the only way to chase those goals.
